Weston CPC Approves February Minutes, Hears Courts Project Update Before Public Hearing

WESTON — February 27, 2023 — Weston's Community Preservation Committee heard that CPA debt service will approach 50 percent of annual fund revenue by fiscal year 2024 and that millions in stale appropriations may be recoverable. The committee received a project update from Recreation Commission representatives Chris Crocker and architect Patrick, who said the courts reconstruction at Burchard Park will go to town meeting as two separate warrant articles — one for pickleball courts and one for tennis and basketball courts — with a current base construction estimate of $1,473,793 and a revised cost estimate from outside firm Sports CE expected by March 6. Combined annual debt service is projected to reach $1.75 million in fiscal year 2024, the highest ever, driven largely by the newly approved Memorial Pool construction borrowing. A project status schedule showed roughly $6.5 million in outstanding appropriations, with several lines — including a $115,000 Case Estates balance dating to 2006 and a $118,000 Brooks School Envelope allocation with no activity since June 2020 — identified as candidates for return to the fund. The committee voted 6-0 to approve amended minutes from its February 6 meeting; the public hearing on the courts project and a proposed rhododendron garden restoration at Case Estates is scheduled for March 13.
