Weston ZBA approves AstraZeneca lot expansion, four other matters in five-hearing night
WESTON — June 14, 2021 — Weston ZBA clears AstraZeneca parking expansion and conditions Joel Smith House rental. The board on June 14 voted unanimously to grant AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals a variance and special permit for 35 additional parking spaces on the Weston portion of its Winter Street campus, bringing the Weston count to 95. VHB engineer Jocelyn Gambone said the chosen location avoids the 200-foot Hobbs Brook riverfront buffer and extensive ledge. The board also granted Dr. Sohail Masood a narrow variance to operate the 1773 Joel Smith House at 316 Wellesley St. as an accessory apartment despite a third bedroom, capping rentals at two bedrooms, four adults or two adults plus three children under 21, one-year minimum lease, and a 30-year or transfer-of-ownership sunset. Masood said he had spent over $2 million remediating mold and rebuilding the historic property. A 295 Glen Road pool enlargement was continued to June 28 pending landscape and lighting plans.
