Weston UPC adopts three-category framework to organize master plan subcommittees

WESTON — April 30, 2025 — Weston's Unified Plan Committee consolidated its subcommittee structure into three categories as the town's master plan enters its second phase. At the April 30 meeting, the committee adopted a framework proposed by member John grouping topics into planning (housing, economic development, and circulation), amenities (natural and cultural resources, open space, and recreation), and municipal services (services, facilities, and schools), replacing a previous list of as many as eight overlapping topic areas. Barrett Planning Group consultant Jill reported the existing conditions report is roughly 80 percent complete, with a draft due to the committee by the end of May; subcommittees are expected to return a list of three to five key issues and opportunities by the end of June. Planning Board member Leslie Glynn flagged two outside organizations — Wellesley-based noise-research group Quiet Communities and the International Dark-Sky Association — as potential contributors to the planning process. The committee set its next meeting for May 12 at 7 p.m. and agreed not to wait for pending membership replacements on the School Committee and Select Board before proceeding.
