Weston Unified Plan Committee adopts vision statement, turns to working group structure

WESTON — April 1, 2025 — Weston's Unified Plan Committee unanimously adopted its vision statement and began shaping the working group structure that will drive the town's first comprehensive master plan. The committee, meeting April 1, voted to accept the vision statement crafted with the Barrett Planning Group, then spent most of the session debating whether the Phase 2 Community Engagement Plan — featuring kitchen conversations, walk-and-talks, and community surveys — adequately prioritized substantive policy work over outreach. Member John warned that the plan had yet to address the town's most pressing concerns: "How are we going to afford what we want to do in the future? How are we going to comply with the regulations that are coming in through housing?" Member Lori Bennett argued engagement would remain thin until the committee tackled specifics such as Chapter 40A Section 3A housing compliance. Chair Danielle, Town Planner Emai, and Barrett's Jill are to meet before the April 29 next session to present a revised working group structure and a milestone-based project schedule, with working groups targeted to launch by mid-May.
