Weston Unified Plan Committee reshapes pitch ahead of Finance Committee funding vote

WESTON — October 30, 2024 — Weston's Unified Plan Committee retools its outreach hours before a $50,000 Finance Committee ask. Chair Lori told the Oct. 30 meeting that the Oct. 21 community forum at the Rec Center drew only about 10 residents — "the usual suspects" — even as the parallel Zen City online survey topped 175 responses. Respondents most often called Weston "wealthy," "beautiful" and "smart," and rarely "young" or "fun"; write-ins pushed for restaurants, sidewalks, housing options and more trails. Member Michael urged Lori to lead with sustainability and a state mandate frame, not the projected 40 percent household increase, warning residents will conflate the plan with the Planning Board's pending 3A zoning warrant. Member Nick, citing a "fairly painful" recent FinCom session, said the pitch should "frame the problem" rather than treat the plan as a 60-year ritual. A longer demographic survey launches Nov. 11.
