Weston Traffic Panel Votes to Add Flashing Stop Sign at Town Center Intersection

WESTON — May 15, 2024 — Weston's Traffic and Sidewalk Committee voted 5-0 to recommend a flashing perimeter lighted stop sign on the westbound approach to the Boston Post Road and School Street intersection after police reported most drivers fail to stop there. Weston Police Captain Kelly, who attended the May 15 meeting, told the committee that officers have spent extensive time enforcing the stop and that driver noncompliance is the consistent pattern they observe. The committee limited its recommendation to the single problematic approach to avoid cluttering the town center's four-way stop with multiple flashing signs. The panel also reported that Town Meeting passed Article 17 the prior week, approving additional design funding for the Route 30 reconstruction project, and that a request for proposals for a town-wide pedestrian and bicycle master plan drew zero responses when it closed in late April and has been reissued with a six-week window and broader distribution through the Consulting Planners of Massachusetts.
