Weston Traffic and Sidewalk Committee postpones Route 117 concepts to July

WESTON — June 26, 2024 — Weston's Traffic and Sidewalk Committee postponed long-awaited concepts for the Route 117, Merriam and Lincoln intersection after designer Howard Stein Hudson missed a soft commitment for the June 26 meeting. Chair Jay Doyle said the firm has been "slow" and set a July 12 deadline to deliver drawings ahead of the committee's July 17 session. An abutter joining remotely called the delay "very disappointing," citing recent cyclist deaths in Cambridge and noting the project has been under discussion for five or six years. The committee did review an updated VHB layout for the Route 117 at Viles Street crossing, adding a splitter island, rapid flashing beacons, a squared crosswalk and a sidewalk extension within the town layout. DPW's Jason LaVoie said he expects five bids by Tuesday on the re-released town-wide pedestrian and bicycle master plan RFP.
