Weston Traffic Committee endorses $600,000 Route 30 design appropriation

WESTON — April 24, 2024 — Weston Traffic and Sidewalk Committee endorses $600,000 Route 30 design appropriation to preserve state funding slot. The committee voted 5-0 Wednesday to back Article 17 at May town meeting, which would fund redesign of the 3.7-mile corridor to meet updated MassDOT bicycle and pedestrian standards. Chair Jay Doyle said failure to approve the money would jeopardize the project's place on the state Transportation Improvement Program, currently programmed for federal fiscal year 2027. The committee also heard that Route 20 at Wellesley Street construction may move up to state fiscal year 2025 from 2026, and that physical safety improvements at Route 117/Merriam/Lincoln have stalled after the on-call consultant's $45,000 proposal had to be scaled to $19,000 to fit the remaining budget. Resident Bill Fitzsimmons told members "people are still in danger at this intersection."
