Weston Traffic Panel Pushes Route 20 Safety Project After Second Injury Crash

WESTON — July 16, 2025 — Weston's Traffic and Sidewalk Committee escalated pressure on two stalled safety projects after learning of a second violent crash at Route 20 and Wellesley Street on the day of its July 16 meeting. Captain Kevin Kelly, the committee's ex-officio police member, told the panel there was a multiple-injury accident at the intersection — Weston's highest-crash location and among the top 10 crash sites on Route 20 statewide — the afternoon before the meeting, pressing Chair Jay Doyle and Public Works Director Jason to confirm the project remains secure on the state Transportation Improvement Program for fiscal year 2026. Jason said MassDOT itself assumed the easement work on the project and he does not expect it to be bumped from the list. The committee also directed Jason to secure MWRA sign-off on the long-delayed Ash Street walkway connector by early August — their third attempt to clear the paperwork — warning that another missed construction season is unacceptable. The panel scheduled its next meeting for August 20, with engineering consultant VHB expected to present pedestrian crossing options for Wellesley Street at that session.
