Weston Route 30 Shared-Use Path Design Advances Toward 75 Percent Completion

WESTON — June 18, 2025 — Weston's Route 30 reconstruction project advances toward 75 percent design with a fiscal year 2028 construction target. Howard Stein Hudson project manager Bridget Myers told the Traffic and Sidewalk Committee at its June 18 meeting that geotechnical borings along the three-and-a-half-mile corridor are complete and that a MassDOT-required geotechnical report will guide retaining wall design. Myers reported that MassDOT does not support a proposed alternative alignment through the ledge cut area east of Oak Street, citing safety and constructability concerns, and that the alternative's running grade of 6.18 percent is steeper than the current design. Three pedestrian refuge islands are proposed at Pine Street, at a mid-block crossing between Winter and Highland Streets, and at Oak Street, where a rectangular rapid-flashing beacon is also planned. Landscape architect Tom Benjamin presented multi-tiered planting concepts for gateway locations along the corridor, with the committee directing that median plantings near driveways top out naturally at waist height. Town engineer Jason separately confirmed that warrant articles for 25 percent design funding at two Route 117 intersections — estimated at roughly $400,000 and $100,000 to construct, respectively — could go before voters as soon as this fall.
