Weston Traffic and Sidewalk Committee launches sidewalk master plan RFP effort

WESTON — September 28, 2022 — Weston Traffic and Sidewalk Committee moves toward a new town-wide sidewalk and bicycle master plan. Chair Jay Doyle and members Andrew Chase and Rich Kula, meeting online September 28, discussed using the committee's roughly $98,000 in available funds to procure outside planning help for a comprehensive update to a plan now more than a decade old, with Chase noting that an approved plan is often a prerequisite for Complete Streets and other state and federal grant programs. The committee welcomed incoming DPW Town Engineer Jason Lavoie and project engineer Sandra Gonneville, replacing departing liaison Steve, who was praised for years of service. On Route 30, Doyle reported that a MassDOT 25-percent design public hearing the prior week drew roughly 65 to 80 members of the public, and that a key outstanding question is whether the 10-foot shared use path standard can be narrowed in sensitive locations to preserve canopy trees and stone walls.
