Weston Traffic Committee Advances Plans for New Sidewalk Master Plan Procurement

WESTON — June 15, 2022 — Weston Traffic and Sidewalk Committee moves toward hiring a consultant to build a new pedestrian and bicycle master plan. Chair Jay Doyle told members at the June 15 meeting that the committee's remaining budget is sufficient to issue a request for proposals, with a goal of selecting a firm by early fall and completing the plan over roughly nine to 12 months. The committee also discussed persistent safety problems at the Wellesley Street, Maple Road, and Meadowbrook Road intersection, where Weston Police Captain Kelly said the "overwhelming majority" of crashes involve vehicles turning from Maple onto Wellesley with their view blocked by a large tree on the southwest corner. On the project front, Merriam Street sidewalk reconstruction is expected to begin in July, Ash Street sidewalk work remains on hold pending staffing, and the Route 30 design public hearing has slipped from June to September with no date yet set.
