WESTON — September 28, 2023 — Weston Select Board appoints new Town Clerk in a 10-minute special session. Town Manager Leon Gaumont recommended Janet Murphy, currently the Watertown City Clerk, to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Deborah Davenport, who had served the town for a number of years. The two-member quorum — Chair Lori Bent and Member Tom Palmer — voted 2-0 Thursday to confirm the appointment, effective October 10. Gaumont cited an urgent timeline, noting upcoming presidential primaries and a November special town meeting as drivers for quick action. Murphy, who began her career as assistant town clerk in North Reading in 2013, told the board she sought a return to town government because, as she put it, "I feel like I work for the residents" rather than for a city administration.
