Weston CPC Reviews $215,000 in Design Fees for Courts and Housing

WESTON — October 2, 2023 — Weston CPC hears design-fee requests for tennis court rebuild and Brook School housing units. The Community Preservation Commission reviewed a $165,000 design-fee request — likely to be revised down to roughly $110,000 — for post-tensioned concrete reconstruction of six Weston High School tennis courts, presented by School Committee Vice Chair Maya Gooch alongside Athletic Director Mike McGrath and senior Alex Co, who described safety hazards and competitive disruptions from worsening court cracks. A separate $50,000 schematic design request for two new affordable elderly units in Brook School's Building A was presented by Brook School's Tom, who estimated final construction costs at $400,000 to $500,000 and noted a wait list of roughly 200 applicants against a turnover of only six units per year. Commissioner Alicia pushed both applicants for firmer cost projections before the public hearing, targeted for late March 2024. The commission's only formal vote was unanimous approval of the prior meeting's minutes; the October 10 session was canceled for lack of additional proposals.
