Weston Select Board sets outdoor Sept. 12 town meeting, endorses FinCom budget compromise

WESTON — July 28, 2020 — Weston sets Sept. 12 outdoor town meeting and salvages a $2.35M budget deal with FinCom. The Select Board scheduled Annual Town Meeting for 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, with a Sept. 13 rain date, after a 350-plus-respondent survey showed 55 percent would be very unlikely to attend indoors during COVID. The town election will be held Thursday, Sept. 10. A budget compromise brokered by member Harvey Boshar and Finance Committee member John Sallay nearly collapsed over a $24,000 figure that would have cut Conservation Department hours; Chair Christopher Houston rescued it by pulling $18,000 each from OPEB and the roadway budget. The board also approved borrowing rather than cash for $945,000 in network equipment, granted a partial abatement on a $18,967 water bill traced to a leaking basement pipe at 117 Boston Post Road, and approved a $20,000 flashing-beacon system at the Church Street crosswalk.
