Weston Select Board holds water rates flat, waives interest on disputed bills
WESTON — July 29, 2021 — Weston Select Board freezes FY22 water rates and waives interest on two contested bills. The board voted 3-0 Thursday to keep tiered rates at $2.20, $6.60 and $13.20 and to forgive interest on the April 15 supplemental and April 30 water bills until after the next bill's due date, after Finance Director Susan projected a $1.5 million fund balance and a rebound from a negative $189,000 position at the end of FY20 to $1.12 million at the close of FY21. About one-third of the contested bills remain unpaid. Member Chris said raising rates would "go over poorly" without a compelling need. The board also endorsed an LED streetlight conversion — 828 of 865 fixtures, roughly $220,000 in fixtures and labor — seeking up to 100 percent Eversource reimbursement before a Dec. 31 deadline, with projected energy savings above $300,000 over 10 years.
