Weston Planning Board approves two special permits, advances camp-review streamlining

WESTON — July 28, 2021 — Weston Planning Board approves two permits and moves to streamline camp renewals. Acting Chair Alicia Palmer led the July 28 remote meeting as the board voted 4-0 to renew the 235 Wellesley Street day-camp special permit — with a note that summer 2021 will have no overnight programs and reduced camper and staff numbers — and 4-0 to issue a residential special permit at 15 Warren Place after edits requiring that "no crushed stone shall be visible at the surface" of the stormwater trench. Palmer abstained on both, having missed the underlying hearings. Town Planner Imai reported that 518 South Avenue's 40B may require redesign after groundwater results diverged from the developer's assumptions, and that Habitat for Humanity's all-ownership project at 0 Wellesley Street carries a roughly $450,000 budget on top of town-conveyed land. Members agreed to shift future camp renewals to administrative approval, with Palmer calling the current process "a waste of our time."
