Weston Select Board appoints three to Council on Aging, advances Riverside housing study

WESTON — July 11, 2023 — Weston Select Board unanimously fills three Council on Aging vacancies and greenlights a housing feasibility study. The board appointed Anita Rahman, a former School Committee chair, Karen Ott, who has worked at Brooke School Apartments and volunteers at the COA, and Laura Whitehouse, a registered nurse and Alzheimer's caregiver, to four-year terms expiring June 30, 2027, choosing from a field of six candidates. The board also directed Town Manager Leon Gohmann to draft a formal charge for a working group that will use up to $100,000 in developer funds from Greatlands — committed under a signed development agreement and held under MGL Chapter 44, Section 53G — to conduct a pre-development feasibility study for up to 20 units of affordable or workforce housing on a Riverside Drive land-swap parcel. Affordable Housing Trust representative Sarah Rattigan reported separately that a single affordable unit at the Village at Silver Hill on Merriam Street drew 116 lottery applications, with the top five applicants under financial review.
