Weston School Study Group Adds MSBA-Sized Options, Delays Final Report to July
WESTON — June 11, 2025 — Weston's HSMS Building Study Working Group agreed to add new MSBA-scaled building options to its draft feasibility report and pushed the final delivery date to July 25. The group, reviewing written comments from member Dan on a draft prepared by lead consultant Jenny, focused on a striking size gap between the MSBA's guideline cap of roughly 91,854 square feet and the district's proposed 154,000-square-foot program. Members agreed to add Options 7A and 7B — buildings scaled to what the MSBA would likely fund — using a dollar-per-square-foot method rather than a new full estimate. A proposed field house, priced at roughly $38 million before soft costs compared to a $37 million pool building, was flagged for further review, with the group planning to consult recreation director Chris and the athletics department before finalizing the report. Brad Meslin, president of the Candleberry Lane Homeowners Association, warned that a three-story building under Option 6B would directly overlook neighboring homes on the eastern property line from October through April.
