Weston Open Space Committee Finalizes Workshop Plan for October Public Forums

WESTON — October 23, 2025 — Weston's Open Space and Recreation Planning Committee finalized its workshop format for two public forums scheduled October 26 and 27. At its October 23 meeting, the committee reviewed a slide presentation and small-group activity plan prepared by consultant Jill, who outlined a structure combining a visioning exercise with station-based discussions of the town's unique features map and updated plan goals carried over from the 2017 cycle. As of the evening, only 10 residents had signed up for the Monday Zoom session and seven for the Sunday in-person event at the Community Center; chair Beth Wilkinson urged members to personally text neighbors, calling individual outreach "the most effective" recruiting tool. The plan update is state-required and a prerequisite for grant funding; the current plan dates to 2017 and drew 411 survey responses, compared to more than 600 in the current cycle. Planning consultant Jordan argued that without a broad visioning prompt — asking residents what they want the town's open space resources "to provide the community" by 2035 — the goals section would "just seem like it's not a unified approach."
