Weston Campus Study Puts School Rebuild Options at Up to $560 Million

WESTON -- October 23, 2025, Weston's secondary school campus feasibility study projects rebuild costs ranging from $172 million to over $560 million across seven options. Architect Jenny of LaVallee-Brensinger presented the yearlong study to the HS/MS Campus Feasibility Study committee on October 23, outlining options from a code-compliance-only renovation to building two new schools simultaneously, with the phased two-school approach identified as the most expensive due to construction cost escalation. Enrollment projections from two demographic firms show a range of 13 to 42 percent growth at the middle and high school by the mid-2030s depending on assumptions about new housing production under 40B and MBTA Communities Act zoning. On an apples-to-apples $350 million construction cost basis, the firm estimated an MSBA reimbursement rate of 17 to 26 percent, putting the town's share at $350 million to $390 million if accepted into the MSBA program immediately, roughly comparable to self-funding and starting two years sooner. The School Committee has ruled out bringing any funding request to the spring Town Meeting; the next decision point is December, when the state MSBA announces whether Weston's statement of interest advances to the eligibility period.
