Weston Rail Trail Committee revisits bench material as bids approach

WESTON — February 25, 2019 — Weston Rail Trail Committee reopens bench-material debate as construction bids approach. The committee on Feb. 25 agreed to seek pricing on reclaimed bog-oak benches and revisit its working assumption of granite at trailheads after resident Isabelle Jenkwartz brought photos of Walden Pond and High Line benches, calling wood "much more warm and inviting." Bids for Church Street and Concord Road trailhead construction open March 20; benches are included as add-alternates over required concrete ADA pads. Recreation Director Chris Fitzgerald said Weston 300, which is promoting granite and the reuse of Field School marble steps, will be brought back into a task force discussion. Member Paul Penfield reported DCR has dropped a planned screen of the Jericho Village/Stonegate view from the matching-grant planting project because of inadequate space against an existing embankment. Chair Ann Strain meets Friday with the police chief and animal control officer to seek a written patrol plan after a surveillance-video dog complaint.
