Weston Traffic Committee retains two on-call consultants in unanimous vote

WESTON — February 20, 2019 — Weston Traffic and Sidewalk Committee signs two firms to on-call engineering contracts. The three-member committee voted unanimously Wednesday to authorize DPW to retain both Howard Stein Hudson and VHB on a task-by-task basis, with an early assignment expected on coordinated turn-restriction signage for Love Lane and Chestnut Street. Chair Jay Doyle said two other firms declined to bid. Most of the meeting was devoted to Howard Stein Hudson's status update on the 3.7-mile Route 30 reconstruction, where project manager Bridget Myers presented three cross-sections — including an 11-foot lane, 2-foot shoulder, 3-foot buffer, and 10-foot shared-use side path option. Principal Mark Rappanisi said MassDOT, which is ratifying tighter bike-accommodation rules within 60 days, "is going to push for that side path because you have the space." Myers also showed that switching the Wellesley Street/Route 30 signal to concurrent pedestrian phasing would shorten the northbound queue from 472 feet to roughly 315 feet without new equipment.
