Weston panel votes to advance Wellesley Street sidewalk gap to Planning Board

WESTON — July 19, 2023 — Weston Traffic and Sidewalk Committee unanimously recommends closing a 400-foot pedestrian gap on Wellesley Street tied to the Route 20 intersection project. The committee voted July 19 to direct the Department of Public Works to bring the missing sidewalk link — which would connect the existing Wellesley Street sidewalk on the east side of the road to the edge of the new Route 20 intersection project sidewalk — to the Planning Board, which has jurisdiction over trees and stone walls on the designated scenic road. Chair Jay Doyle said the extension would create a second continuous north-south pedestrian route between the south and north sides of Route 20, serving residents near Case Estates, the library, and Scout House. The committee also asked Weston Police Captain Kelly to pull crash records for Highland Street near Lookout Point after a resident email cited cars going off the road between 180 and 198 Highland Street, and MassDOT confirmed that bicycle safe-passage signs are on order with delivery expected within six to eight weeks.
