Weston Traffic Committee Pushes Toward Warrant Deadline on Highland Street Signal

WESTON — September 20, 2023 — Weston Traffic and Sidewalk Committee reviewed five active infrastructure projects with no permanent fixes imminent at any of them. Committee Chair Jay Doyle and DPW representative Jason reported that a Community Preservation Act funding application for the Estuary Trail Walkway was submitted and presented to the Community Preservation Committee on September 18, with construction targeted for spring 2024. At the Highland Street and Route 20 intersection — which the committee has already voted to recommend signalizing — engineering firm VHB has not yet delivered a final contract proposal, and Jason said the town is racing to place the item on the fall Town Meeting warrant before a mid-October deadline. Weston Police Captain Kelly said interim movement restrictions would face MassDOT approval hurdles and risk pushing queuing onto cut-through streets including Golden Ball Road and Linwood Street. Joel Angelilio, a Weston resident and member of the Nashoba Regional Greenway team, briefed the committee on a regional MassDOT wayfinding signage initiative spanning the Route 2 corridor, noting Weston is not yet part of a pending Mass Trails grant but could be in a future phase.
