Weston Historical Commission continues Cambridge School demolition-delay hearing to May

WESTON — April 4, 2023 — Weston Historical Commission continued a demolition-delay proceeding against Cambridge School of Weston and voted on six other property applications at its April 4 meeting. The commission, chaired by Phyllis Halpern, kept the 12-month delay on 109 Lexington Street — a condemned 1750 structure the school wants to replace — after architect Mike Wolfson of Meander Studio presented revised drawings showing a front-facade replica but declined to share floor plans, saying the school had instructed him not to. Planning Board member Alicia Primer told the commission the project still faces Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals review and urged that no approvals be based on undimensioned drawings. The commission also unanimously found the Frank and Mary Duffy house at 6 Irving Road, a 1930 colonial revival, historically significant and scheduled a public hearing for May 2, while approving window replacements at 510 Boston Post Road and a HardiePlank siding substitution at 27 Golden Ball Road. In a 5-1 vote, the commission declined to find 11 Silver Hill Road significant, clearing the owners' addition plans without further review, and unanimously approved renovation plans for 270 Glen Road within the Glen Road National Register Historic District. The commission also voted to raise its historic marker fee from $180 to $200 and to make a $250 contribution to the May 20 Celebrate Weston event.
