Weston Historical Commission Clears Three Demolition Cases in Single Meeting

WESTON — December 16, 2025 — Weston Historical Commission clears three demolition delay applications and accepts preservation deed for rare passive solar home. Co-Chair Phyllis Halpern led the December 16 hybrid meeting at which members voted unanimously on all ten roll-call items. The commission approved additions and a garage replacement at 23 Wellesley Street after architect Andy Slipo presented a revised hip-gable roofline credited to a suggestion from member John Thompson; approved a rear porch addition at 37 Silver Hill Road; and declined to impose a demolition delay on 59 Ash Street, a 1942 Colonial Revival with sub-seven-foot ceilings and foundation problems, with member Henry S. Stone, Jr. saying after a site walk that "this house is very compromised." The commission also voted unanimously to accept a donated preservation deed restriction on 21 Hillcrest Road, a functioning Trombe-wall passive solar home whose owners — retired Brandeis biology professors — sought no tax benefit. A $20,000 fund from a prior town meeting will cover drafting costs, requiring no new Town Meeting vote.
