Weston Historical Commission clears 6 Irving Road demolition after delay vote fails

WESTON — May 30, 2023 — Weston Historical Commission rejected a demolition delay on a deteriorating 1930 colonial revival at 6 Irving Road while unanimously protecting a far older neighbor on Glen Road. The commission voted 3-4 against imposing the delay on 6 Irving Road — effectively permitting demolition — after member Alfred Aydelott warned the owner's representative that razing the structure before obtaining Zoning Board of Appeals approval for a replacement could leave the nonconforming lot permanently unbuildable. A neighbor at 4 Irving Road told commissioners during public comment, "If that house collapses, that's hitting my house." By contrast, the board voted 7-0 to impose a 12-month delay on the circa-1812 Paul Pratt House at 317 Glen Road, whose owners were out of the country and unrepresented, citing the property's foundational role in the Glen Road Historic District. The commission also voted unanimously to grant provisional approval for exterior renovations to the historic Charles E. Peaks House at 255 Merriam Street, contingent on revised plans addressing vinyl railing, front-porch decking material, and garage-addition detailing.
