Weston Historical Commission approves window work at two historic homes, advances third project

WESTON -- September 10, 2024, Weston Historical Commission unanimously approved window replacement projects at two historic Newton Street and Conant Road homes and referred a third project to a public hearing. Co-Chair Phyllis Halpern led the commission through initial significance determinations for all three properties at the September 10 meeting, with all votes 4-0. At 95 Newton Street, the Albert and Selma Warren House, eight vinyl windows will be replaced with composite Anderson Renewal units; at 32 Conant Road, two deteriorating front windows will be replaced in kind. A porch enclosure at 12 Hemlock Road, the 1885 Charles C. Kenny House, was advanced to an October 8 public hearing. Member Steve Wagner reported a bronze replacement plaque for the Post Road historical marker is estimated at $13,700, not including excavation to reset the buried fieldstone base, and said the project would likely become a Community Preservation Committee request. Halpern also announced that the commission's completed mid-century modern building survey, now posted to the town website, will form the basis of a proposed new post-1945 cultural inventory category aimed at extending preservation deed restriction eligibility beyond the existing demolition delay bylaw.
