WESTON — January 11, 2022 — Weston Historical Commission unanimously approved window and dormer modifications to a 1925 Skating Pond Road colonial and moved to advance preservation efforts for a historic property at 669 Boston Post Road. At the January 11 remote meeting, the seven-member board approved changes proposed by owner Ty Houghton and architect Dan Reynolds at 26 Skating Pond Road, finding them in keeping with the house's historic character. The commission also rejected a board-and-batten siding request from developer David Connelly at 189 Merriam Street, with members calling the proposed accent a "gilding the lily" fad. For 669 Boston Post Road — a historic house facing a demolition delay expiring June 22 — the commission voted to ask the Community Preservation Committee to direct already-authorized funds toward a preservation deed restriction appraisal, with member Alfred Aydelott noting talks with property owner Billy Rowe are ongoing. The commission separately referred a dispute over a lapsed preservation restriction at 316 Wellesley Street to town counsel and is pursuing a $30,000 Mass Historical Commission survey grant covering roughly 110 properties, with a second-phase application due February 7.
