Weston CPC Hears $3.15 Million Memorial Pool Cost Estimate Before Public Hearing

WESTON -- July 11, 2022, Weston's Community Preservation Committee reviewed a $3.15 million cost estimate for the Memorial Pool renovation at its July 11 meeting, with the project heading to a public hearing on July 19. Project design lead Tom Scarlata walked members through a base construction figure of $1.8 million, $728,000 in contractor markups, and roughly $529,000 in contingency and escalation charges tied to volatile material costs, with soft-cost analyst Jim Palando confirming the all-in request is $3.15 million, up from a $2.5 million spring construction estimate. A separate, non-CPA article of approximately $50,000 for loose furnishings may accompany the main warrant article at the September 13 Special Town Meeting. Two other expected applications, a Case Park tree-planting proposal and an Affordable Housing Trust housing-preservation request, were withdrawn before the meeting. Chair Glenn Butcher noted the CPA fund balance entering fiscal year 2023 stands at roughly $5.976 million, with Memorial Pool debt service not beginning until fiscal year 2024.
