Weston CPC Recommends $1.9 Million for Burchard Park Courts at Town Meeting

WESTON — March 13, 2023 — Weston CPC votes to send $1.962 million in Community Preservation Act spending to Annual Town Meeting. The committee unanimously recommended $1.9 million in cash CPA funding for new pickleball courts and the rehabilitation of tennis and basketball courts at Burchard Park, a project that grew by roughly $400,000 since initial estimates due to concrete price increases and updated market-rate construction costs. A $20,000 feasibility study for the historic rhododendron garden at the Case Estates passed 5-1 with two abstentions, over objections from the Finance Committee, which member Barath described as "least supportive" of the garden project among all CPA applications. The committee unanimously approved $42,000 in continuing funds for the Regional Housing Services Office, presented by Weston Affordable Housing Trust representative Sarah Radigan. Chair Glenn Butcher and members voted to set a fall application deadline of September 12 and a tentative special pre-town-meeting session around April 24 to review construction bids, which are expected around late March. Long-serving member Steven Wagner indicated he will depart after the May 8 Annual Town Meeting, leaving an at-large vacancy for moderator Rip Hastings to fill.
