Weston CPC approves $40,000 for recreation master plan consultant

WESTON — September 24, 2018 — Weston's Community Preservation Committee unanimously approved $40,000 in administrative funds for a recreation master plan, short of the steering committee's $50,000 request. Recreation Master Plan Steering Committee Chair Trevor McConnell and School Committee member Alex Cobb presented a proposal to hire planning firm Weston and Sampson at a total cost of $58,000, with $8,000 in indoor-use costs excluded as CPA-ineligible; the committee settled on $40,000 and directed the group to find the remaining $18,000 through school, town, or capital accounts. CPC member Steven Wagner noted the last recreation master plan, funded at $38,000 in 2005, generated more than $11 million in subsequent field investment. The committee also heard an initial pitch from Historical Commission representative Alicia Primer for an $81,000 preservation restriction on the John Warren House at 71 Lexington Street — one of only three known 17th-century structures in Weston — with a formal vote expected after a public hearing later this fall.
