Weston CPC approves $35,000 in study funds for pickleball, historic inventory

WESTON — November 15, 2021 — Weston CPC funds pickleball feasibility and modern-house survey, previews $6.9M Brook School pitch. The Community Preservation Committee voted 7-0 on Nov. 15 to grant $20,000 for a pickleball-court feasibility study and 7-0 for $15,000 to match a state Survey and Planning grant for inventorying Weston's modern architecture. Recreation Director Chris Fitzgerald agreed to broaden the pickleball study to evaluate converting underused tennis courts after member Barry warned the scope read as "construct or bust." Historical Commission co-chair Phyllis Halpern said the $30,000 combined pool would update the 2003 Kendal Common form and document houses by Hugh Stubbins, Earl Flansburg and others; co-chair Steven Wagner called it "the first step" toward protecting modern houses not covered by the 1945 demolition-delay cutoff. Tom Timko of the Elderly Housing Committee previewed a $250,000 pre-development request for a 14-unit, $6.9 million Brook School Apartments expansion capped by Title 5 septic limits.
