Weston committee weighs three crosswalk options near Lansake Farm on Wellesley Street

WESTON -- September 25, 2025, Weston's Traffic and Sidewalk Committee heard engineering analysis Thursday pointing to three viable locations for a new pedestrian crossing on Wellesley Street near Lansake Farm. VHB senior project manager Laura Castelli and engineer Ashley Domagala presented data showing roughly 17,000 vehicles per day on the corridor, an 85th percentile speed of 34 mph against a 25 mph limit, and a count of about 30 pedestrians crossing in a single 10-minute period during a July farm event. The team ruled out an all-way stop at Newton and Wellesley streets, finding that although two of seven federal warrants are met, Newton Street queuing would worsen disproportionately. The two northernmost crosswalk concepts were effectively set aside, with discussion converging on an orange option immediately north of the Lansake driveway, which carries the best sight distance, and two green options on a larger median island to the south; committee chair Jay Doyle said a roundabout at Cases Corner, which failed at a 2012 town meeting, remains a long-term option outside the current scope. VHB will submit a technical memo to town engineer Jason Lavoie within days, and the committee's next meeting is set for October 23.
