Weston committee tracks Merriam Street sidewalk to within weeks of completion

WESTON — October 14, 2020 — Weston's Merriam Street sidewalk and boardwalk project enters its final weeks. DPW's Steve Fogg told the Traffic and Sidewalk Committee on Oct. 14 that timber guardrail installation began that day, with berm work, asphalt sidewalk paving, and final top-course paving by contractor Lazaro from Sunset to Westland to follow over "the next couple of three weeks." Granite slabs from the demolished culvert have been repurposed as ramp edges and conservation-land seating, a save the chair credited to Planning Board member Leslie Glenn. Police speed-board data on the Boston Post Road bypass found 85th-percentile speeds at the posted 40 mph limit, deferring any MassDOT reduction petition until town center construction finishes. The Select Board has separately voted to install a four-way stop at School Street, the bypass and Church Street, with coordination underway. The committee next meets Nov. 18.
