Historical Commission clears Concord Road barn demolition, approves Montvale Road rebuild
WESTON — October 13, 2020 — Weston Historical Commission clears Concord Road barn demolition amid calls for a demo-by-neglect ordinance. Owner Andy Martin told the commission that a wall section of the c.1890 35-by-70-foot barn at 420 Concord Road collapsed into a neighbor's driveway in April and that termite damage made repair unaffordable. Member Henry S. Stone, Jr. moved to decline the delay and offered to help salvage timbers; Co-Chair Phyllis Halpern called the loss "sad and preventable." Members Alfred Aydelott and Alicia abstained. The same meeting approved a replacement house at 28 Montvale Road with conditions including a cupola light capped at the equivalent of a 100-watt downlit bulb, found 1 Derby Lane, 416 Conant Road, and 10 Maple Street historically significant, and continued contested redesigns at 189 Merriam Street and 405 North Avenue to Nov. 10.
