Weston committee advances design work on two Wellesley Street crosswalks

WESTON — December 16, 2024 — Weston Traffic and Sidewalk Committee directs concept design for two Wellesley Street crossings and revives Highland sidewalk. At its Dec. 16 meeting, Chair Jay Doyle and Town Engineer Jason LeMoye agreed to engage an on-call traffic consultant on conceptual options for a new crossing at Meadowbrook Road and a Land's Sake-area crossing near Newton Street, with sketches expected by February or March. Land's Sake Executive Director Pam Hess told members more than 600 children crossed Wellesley Street on 37 field trips last year, with 420 more on 75 after-school visits, and said staff in yellow vests face drivers who "don't want to slow down." Resident Ellie Pendergast presented sketches for both sites; resident William Harley urged additional stop signs to slow "the Wellesley raceway." The committee also moved to revive the long-stalled Highland Street sidewalk midsection and plans January votes directing VHB on Route 117 design edits, including replacing a corrugated truck-apron surface members called hazardous for cyclists.
