Weston Ag Commission Defers Earth Day Decision, Eyes Chicken-Farming Event

WESTON — April 6, 2022 — Weston Agricultural Commission weighs Earth Day table, plans chicken-farming presentation for May. At the April 6 remote meeting, Chair Avery Chaplin and members Kent Lundberg and a member identified as "Yet" approved minutes from the commission's February 2 and February 15 sessions before spending the bulk of an hour debating a Landsakes Farm Earth Day event on April 30. The commission received no firm commitment on the event, with Lundberg suggesting seed giveaways and Chaplin raising the possibility of bringing therapeutic miniature ponies owned by a Weston resident identified as Cynthia Wagner, but neither idea was locked in. Commissioners set April 20 as their next meeting to finalize a decision on the Earth Day table and agreed to pursue a mid-May presentation on small-scale chicken keeping, for which they still need a speaker. Chaplin also called on the commission to compile a formal list of Weston farms, including 61A-designated parcels, saying a prior beekeeping event drew roughly 30 residents and demonstrated strong community interest.
