Weston Agricultural Commission approves overdue minutes, plans Chapter 61A public seminar

WESTON -- October 18, 2022, Weston Agricultural Commission sets speaker series and moves to recruit a fifth member. At the October 18 session, Chair Avery Chaplin and members Kent Lundberg and two colleagues unanimously approved long-delayed minutes from March and April before agreeing to seek a new appointment through the Select Board, which may name between three and seven members to the panel. The commission tentatively outlined a spring public event on small-scale chicken farming, with Lundberg offering to discuss his experience as a meat-chicken grower for what is now Codman Farm, and separately agreed to pursue a Massachusetts Farm Bureau speaker to explain Chapter 61A farmland tax classification in plain language for Weston residents. Members also discussed obtaining the assessor's list of current Chapter 61A enrollees to seed a farmer outreach mailing list. The next meeting is scheduled for December 13 at 6 p.m.
