Weston advances Route 30 path to 75 percent design phase

WESTON — September 24, 2024 — Weston Traffic and Sidewalk Committee advances Route 30 shared-use path into 75 percent design. Consultant Bridget Myers of Howard Stein Hudson walked the committee and roughly two dozen residents through the cross section for the 3.7-mile corridor — one travel lane each direction, three-foot shoulder, landscape buffer, and a 10-foot shared-use path on the south side that switches to the north at Newton Street. Chair Jay Doyle confirmed MassDOT has approved the 25 percent design and a waiver for single-side pedestrian accommodation. Proposed signals at Pointer Street and Oak Street have been dropped at Select Board preference, with conduit left in place. A resident analysis presented at the meeting estimated 9,700 vehicle crossings of the path per day; "that wrong-way cyclist just puts this over the top," resident Lou said, urging a one-way-with-traffic alternative. Resident Barbara Fullerton objected to tightening the westbound Route 30 right turn onto Highland Street. Three corridor segment meetings are set for Oct. 8, 15 and 22.
