Select Board issues Weston's first restaurant liquor license in roughly 200 years

WESTON — November 26, 2024 — Weston grants its first restaurant liquor license in roughly 200 years. The Select Board voted 3-0 Tuesday to issue an all-alcohol on-premises license to BU West LLC for The Woods, a restaurant planned by Weston-resident restaurateur Brian Piccini at the historic Josiah Smith Tavern, under special-act state legislation passed as Chapter 148 of the Acts of 2024. Approved hours run 11 a.m. to midnight Monday through Saturday and noon to midnight Sunday, with outdoor patio cut off at 11 p.m. and maximum seating capped at 175. Attorney Dennis Quilty called it a "really historic" moment. Separately, the board voted 2-1 to support roughly $37 million in borrowing for water-tank replacement at town meeting, with member Lisa Revers opposed over concerns that the $43 million project estimate excludes a redundant MWRA main and an estimated $7 million Cat Rock water-main relocation.
