Weston Select Board approves Woodland emergency access, Roach Brothers license transfer

WESTON — November 12, 2024 — Weston Select Board clears Woodland access, Roach Brothers transfer, previews $43 million water-tank vote. The three-member board unanimously authorized in-house widening of the emergency road from Linwood Cemetery into Woodland School at a cost not to exceed $10,000, with Chair Tom Palmer noting the road has been used in an emergency only once. The board then approved two roll-call motions transferring 51 percent of RVSBW Inc., the parent of Roach Brothers, to the Zoom family, with attorney Andrew Upton telling members "there will be no changes to any aspect of operation at the store." On the Dec. 3 water tank package, Palmer detailed a $43 million not-to-exceed cost, up from $30 million in 2023, financed largely through the water enterprise fund at 2.4 percent SRF rates with projected 5 percent annual rate increases. Member Lise Revers questioned the engineering completeness behind the figure and the proposed sequence of the Hobbs Brook surplus vote ahead of the MBTA Communities zoning article, calling it "a little self-dealing." The board will take formal positions Nov. 26.
