Historical Commission finds four houses significant, approves 99 Love Lane Tudor addition

WESTON — August 18, 2020 — Weston Historical Commission finds four houses significant and clears revised 99 Love Lane Tudor addition. The commission voted 6-0 on Aug. 18 to find significant a 1942 colonial revival at 28 Montfield Road, a 1917 vernacular Victorian at 189 Merriam Street, a 1916 stone former estate garage at 50 Byron Road, and a 1905 farmhouse-and-barn complex at 405 North Avenue, scheduling Sept. 15 public hearings on each. Co-Chairs Steve Wagner and Phyllis Halpern praised owner Tyler Burns and architect Monica Polly for revising the 99 Love Lane plans to retain the original asymmetric front door and break up the new garage roofline with dormers. "I'm so pleased that you decided to keep the original front door and its quirky asymmetry," Halpern said. Member Alfred Aydelott, also Planning Board chair, warned 189 Merriam prospective buyer David Connelly that the non-conforming lot would make any replacement structure "a tall order" at the Zoning Board of Appeals.
