Historical Commission clears two Weston demolitions, schedules March 24 hearing on Merriam Street barn

WESTON — March 4, 2020 — Weston Historical Commission advances four projects and sets March 24 hearing on Merriam Street barn demolition. Co-Chair Phyllis Halpern's panel unanimously approved a revised renovation at 64 Wellesley Street in the Case Corner Historic District after owner Andrew Maher addressed roof, dormer and frieze-board concerns; member Alfred Aydelott pushed for a frieze board to give the long facade "a little better scale." The commission found an 1846-era cape at 83 Brown Street not significant, clearing demolition. New owners at 170 Winter Street won approval to swap 17 carriage-house casements for two-over-one double-hungs with no delay. Developer Jeffrey Engler of SEB drew unanimous significance findings on the main house, pump house and barn at 255 Merriam Street in the Silver Hill Historic District; the commission scheduled a March 24 public hearing on the barn demolition ahead of the April 6 Special Town Meeting.
