Historical Commission clears 33 Bullard Road, presses Mill Creek on preserving 1805 interiors

WESTON — January 6, 2020 — Weston Historical Commission approves Tudor renovation, presses Mill Creek to preserve more historic interiors. The commission unanimously cleared revised plans for the 1920 estate at 33 Bullard Road on Jan. 6 after owner Paul Bevilacca and architect Richard Pignotoro swapped proposed double-hung windows for wood Pella French casements. Most of the three-hour meeting was a line-by-line walk through Mill Creek Residential's draft conditions assessment for the 751-761 Boston Post Road affordable housing project, where members Henry Stone and Alfred Aydelott pushed back on plans to use insulated glass, raw concrete foundations, and removable wainscoting in the 1805 Eleanor Raymond Wing. "I'd lie down in front of the bulldozers before I got rid of the level two stuff," Stone said. The commission also voted to request up to $75,000 from the CPC for phase three cemetery tomb repairs estimated by Structures North at $35,000–$55,000, signaled support for roughly $300,000 in historic-bucket funding to preserve WAFI's two existing Birch Lane houses, and nominated Stone and Aydelott to attend the roughly 50 weekly Case House construction meetings.
