Historical Commission approves window, siding work on two Derby Lane homes

WESTON — February 11, 2025 — Weston Historical Commission clears window and siding projects at two Derby Lane houses. The commission voted 5-1 to allow Marvin Infinity fiberglass insert windows at 33 Derby Lane, the 1941 Sly House, with Co-Chair Phyllis Halpern dissenting because she wanted to see the profile in person; homeowner Jacob Harley said wood restoration quotes ran "like a quarter million dollars to do 20." Members unanimously approved James Hardie fiber-cement siding, a six-inch PVC water table, and 11 Marvin Elevate windows at 28 Derby Lane, the 1936 Buxbaum/Leaf House, with wood shutter selection delegated to administrative review. The Rev. Patrick of St. Catherine of Siena said restoring the rear stained-glass window's sash frame alone could cost $100,000, with new glass quoted at $70,000 to $150,000. The Central Cemetery memorial gate request to CPC has been cut to under $500,000, with a potential $100,000 MHC grant in play.
