Historical Commission approves revised designs for two significant Weston homes

WESTON — July 16, 2024 — Weston Historical Commission approves revised designs on two significant homes, advances $20,000 standing CPC funding request. The commission voted unanimously July 16 to approve new carriage-style garage doors at 33 Aberdeen Road, presented by architect Andy Hatcher after members rejected an earlier contemporary design as out of period for the 1938 house. At 115 Loring Road, owner Van Orenstein reversed course and committed to restore all front-facing windows; a rear kitchen casement will be replaced with wood, simulated-divided-light units from Andersen or Marvin, and a 12-light front door was approved. Co-Chair Phyllis Halpern called it "a nice compromise." A 20 Maple Road addition was withdrawn without prejudice by JFF Design Architects' Joe Fonnier. Members also backed Halpern's proposal for a standing $20,000 Community Preservation Committee fund — modeled on an Amherst mechanism flagged by Town Manager Leon Gaumond — to cover appraisals and draft preservation deed restrictions without waiting for Town Meeting.
