Weston ZBA unanimously approves barn conversion to accessory apartment on Wellesley Street

WESTON — July 9, 2024 — Weston ZBA approves 864-square-foot accessory apartment inside an 1896 barn at 102 Wellesley Street. The three-member board voted 3-0 at its July 9 meeting to grant a special permit for the two-bedroom unit, proposed by property owner Alok Chakravarti for his parents' use. Architect Bjorn Slate of LDA Architects presented the plan to renovate the carriage-house section of the historic barn — part of the Case Estate — with the project having already cleared both the Weston Historical Commission and the Board of Health. The board conditioned approval on submission of a stamped plan showing the apartment's residential gross floor area and confirmation of DPW stormwater approval, which Slate said was "imminent." The board also voted 3-0 to allow petitioners Jamie Harrison and Caleb Almany to withdraw without prejudice a separate special permit application at 20 Maple Road.
