Weston ZBA grants special permit for 5 Warren Place addition

WESTON — December 7, 2021 — Weston ZBA unanimously approves special permit for two-story addition at 5 Warren Place. The board voted 3-0 Dec. 7 to allow designer Siam Khan, representing owner Mohamed Alam, to replace an existing deck with a two-story rear addition, conditioned on submitting a missing RGFA sheet and a 29-foot natural-grade-to-ridge dimension. Acting Chair Steve LaRock said the applicant had satisfied a list of six prior board requests covering setbacks, grade, elevations, Historic Commission revisions and a Conservation Commission order of conditions. Member Sujit Sathaye flagged the project's roughly 15 percent RGFA as "relatively higher than the surrounding lots," citing comparables at 21 Warren (15 percent), 29 Warren (14 percent) and 14 Warren (13 percent), but noted no abutters had opposed across multiple hearings. The attic, sized seven feet at ridge and four feet at the eave, will be finished as a grandchildren's play area, not a bedroom.
